Mobilization
As part of work with the
Center for Mobile Computing Applications, we're
trying out some techniques to make our web pages
mobile-friendly. A few of our pages now operate in dual-mode,
with a different layout when accessed by a mobile browser. If
you have a mobile device, give the CS homepage a visit; if you
have any problems or comments, let Dr. Hansen know.

The CSIS department announces the creation of Information
Systems as a distinct major. As a result, the department now becomes
the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems.
The department previously offered one degree with Computer Science
and Information Science "tracks". The new approach separates the
two tracks into distince majors, strengthening each major. Students
in either major will be engaged by the new Center for Mobile
Computing Applications.

The University has recently chartered the new
Center for Mobile Computing Applications.
This center will be staffed by CSIS faculty and students
together with staff from the University's Institutional Technology
department. The primary mandate of the center is develop new and
novel applications for mobile platforms that can have an impact on
education and the University. In addition, we'll be looking to
develop applications that can serve others who could benefit from
mobile computing.
Over the coming years, we'll be integrating the topic of mobile
and ubiquitous computing into our courses where
applicable, allowing us to maintain our comprehensive CSIS
curriculum, while adding a novel cutting-edge component to our
courses and coursework.
Students (current and prospective) should watch for future
announcements about hardware platforms; we expect to have
additional exciting news to share in the coming months.
